Chants of Africa

This season, our voices travel across Africa, from Zambia to East Africa and all the way to South Africa.

Live this holiday season

Every season, SJCC sets out on a new musical journey. For Season II 2026 we are learning chants and songs from across the African continent, sung in Bemba, Swahili and isiZulu. For a choir whose members come from many nationalities, singing in languages that are new to most of us is part of the adventure. We learn not only the notes, but the rhythms, the stories and the spirit behind them.

Joy

Bright call-and-response songs that invite everyone to clap and sing along.

Love

Tender love songs and lullabies, carried by warm melodies.

Hope

Rolling South African harmonies and songs of hope that have travelled the world.

Who we are

One choir, many walks of life

Founded in January 2007, we are a non-auditioned, international and secular community choir in Jakarta. We sing classical, pop, jazz, rock, show tunes, world music, folk songs and golden oldies, and we sing for the joy of it.

Members of many nationalities

Every Monday, something wonderful happens across Jakarta. Laptops close, shifts end, lesson plans are packed away, and one by one our members make their way to rehearsal.

Some of us grew up just down the road; others arrived from the other side of the world. Some have sung all their lives; others are discovering their voice for the very first time. But once the music begins, job titles and passports no longer matter. What matters is the next note, the harmony we build together, and the joy of hearing it come alive.

That has been the spirit of SJCC since 2007.

An accomplished Indonesian composer and arranger, celebrated for his artistry, musical versatility, and distinctive creative voice.

Book a performance

Let's make your event sing.

A 30-minute show made for your event: a full choir, minus-one backing tracks or piano, simple choreography and costumes to suit the occasion. Extendable with solo pieces for a longer programme.

Easy to host. All we need is:

  • A sound system to play our minus-one backing tracks
  • Microphones (optional in small, enclosed rooms)
  • A piano, if one is available (optional)
  • Standing room for the singers
FREE! Our fee

No fee.

We don't charge for performances. All we ask is the opportunity to sing for your guests. Every performance helps our choir grow and our members develop.

Love to sing? There's a place for you.

SJCC is open to everyone. All nationalities are welcome, and no auditions or experience are required. Every season we learn a new theme together and perform it at the end of the season.
